Belly Dance and I found each other in 2010 with the help of a dear friend. Studies began within the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) every Thursday night for years under Erzulie. I feel blessed to have begun with a blended foundation of technique, music, musicality, performance skills, cultural study, costuming, prop use, instruments (kills, chalpara, riq) and LIVE MUSIC. We spent as much time on 9/8, and 6/8 as we spent on 4/4, 4/8.
In 2011 I began my ATS study with Sara Ford, in Boston. I fell in LOVE with this dance. I remember saying to her one day, ‘I have never felt so beautiful in my entire life’; this due in part to ATS itself and also her authentic desire to celebrate EVERY body in motion.
I received my GS Modern and Classic at the first ATS Homecoming in the motherland, then my Teacher Training in Texas in 2015. I attend NEATS (Northeast ATS) Camp every year. Last year was Volume 9 and this year I am so excited for ATS Reunion!
I have thankfully learned from many wonderful teachers; OG and on!
I love duet-ing with my Ki-ra Luna partner Wendee Abramo as much as I love being part of a massive chorus, as much as I love jamming at a hafla with sisters from around the world.
In non-dance time I’m an avid kayaker, nature photographer, makeup junkie, mom to 3 fur babies, wife, and AUNTIE to 2 beautiful nephews.
