Leigh Anne Shaw began studying American Tribal Style® Belly Dance in 2004 at the famous FatChanceBellyDance® studio in San Francisco, learning directly from its creator, Carolena Nericcio, and the original FCBD® troupe instructors. She received her General Skills and Teaching Certification in 2010 and is a certified FCBD® Sister Studio teacher. Leigh Anne teaches ATS® at Ocean Yoga in Pacifica, CA. As a longtime student and studio dancer at the FCBD® studio, Leigh Anne led and developed the FCBD® student troupe, Nefer Tem, before founding her own troupe, Al-hambra Tribal Dance; this award-winning troupe performs ATS® all over the S.F. Bay Area and beyond.
Al-hambra Tribal Dance began experimenting with inserting props into ATS® in 2009 and has created their own ATS® Movement Dialect for Baskets. Leigh Anne teaches this very accessible and beautiful dialect through workshops upon request.
Leigh Anne only teaches ATS®, but her personal dance influences include world fusion by Wendy Marlatt, with whom Leigh Anne performs in a collective known as Rashani; tribal fusion by Cera Byer and Ariellah DarkerStill; modern Egyptian by Nanna Candelaria; classic and modern Egyptian and Jamila format by Asia Arabesque and Malia De Felice; Suhaila and Jamila format by Andrea Sendek; Turkish Rom and modern belly dance by Elizabeth Strong. Leigh Anne is also a founding member and principal dancer in the Qabila Folkdance Company, San Francisco chapter.
Leigh Anne’s classes are held at Ocean Yoga in Pacifica.
