Sister Studio Welcome Letter

Congratulations on completing Teacher Training!  You are now eligible to become a FatChanceBellyDance® Sister Studio. This document will give you all the information that you need to become an FCBD® Sister Studio. As a Sister Studio, you will join an international community of dancers who are dedicated to American Tribal Style® belly dance.
By becoming a Sister Studio, you are indicating to us, your students, your fellow dancers, and to yourself your commitment to accurately and faithfully present ATS® as developed by FatChanceBellyDance®.  In return, we will support you in your efforts to strengthen our community and spread the joy of ATS®.
We look forward to having you as a member of our community!  Please keep in touch and let us know about your dance accomplishments and adventures.

Carolena & Megha

Becoming an FCBD® Sister Studio
Now that you have completed Teacher Training, you are eligible to become an FCBD® Sister Studio. Please review this document, make sure you can abide by all of the requirements, and follow the link to register.

A Sister Studio is a theory more than a physical place — you don’t have to own or rent an actual studio, you just have to be a “sister” of the FCBD® Studio. Being a Sister Studio means that you are committed to presenting American Tribal Style® belly dance, whether through instruction or performance, as developed by Carolena Nericcio and FatChanceBellydance®.
Be sure that both you — and your troupe, if applicable — are truly ready to adopt the total FCBD® way of dancing. If your troupe is used to taking ideas from other sources, it can be a problem if the dancers (or you) start to feel restricted by the boundaries.
When you feel freedom in the boundaries, you are ready to become a FatChanceBellyDance® Sister Studio.

For instruction and performances presented as American Tribal Style®, we require that you strictly adhere to the ATS® vocabulary as developed by FatChanceBellyDance®.
You are welcome to teach ATS® at studios and festivals that are presenting other styles of dance — we encourage it! — as long as you make clear that what you are presenting is ATS® as developed by FatChanceBellyDance®.
You may teach Tribal Fusion or other styles of dance, but it must be separate from ATS® instruction. In Fusion classes you may reference ATS®, but do not teach ATS® in your Fusion classes.
Being a Sister Studio does not restrict you from studying, performing, or teaching other styles of dance.  Your responsibility as a Sister Studio when presenting ATS® is to accurately represent our dance form.

While we ask that Sister Studios adhere to the FCBD® vocabulary when presenting ATS®, becoming a Sister Studio does not restrict you from developing your own movements or concepts. Vocabulary that is unique to your troupe is known as an ATS® Movement Dialect.
As a Sister Studio, we ask that you are clear in your instruction about what movements fall outside of the FCBD® vocabulary and are part of your ATS® Movement Dialect.
Be advised that developing an ATS® Movement Dialect is somewhat at odds with ATS® as a universal language.  Having your own vocabulary will take you out of flow when dancing with others outside of your troupe. That said, the motivation behind the ATS® Movement Dialect is to allow for creativity in an open and honest environment.

Please use the registered trademark symbol (®) after all references to FatChanceBellyDance®, FCBD®, ATS®, American Tribal Style®, and Dancing in Flow®, including print or web descriptions and advertising.
The key strokes for ® are as follows:
Mac: option + r
PC: alt + 0174

Please describe yourself as “a FatChanceBellyDance® Sister Studio.”

You are welcome, but not required, to follow the FCBD® class format.  Feel free to use a format suited to your customers and locale — do what works for you!

Please add the FatChanceBellyDance® website to the top of your resources list or links.

Sister Studio status does not guarantee territory. Sister Studio status will be granted to anyone that fulfills the aim of increasing the global reach of ATS®. You may be the first Sister Studio in your area, but others may follow. We can accomplish more if we collaborate rather than compete.  We’re all in this together, so work together and play nice.

You CAN teach classes and workshops in ATS®. You can offer a certificate of attendance of your class or course. You CANNOT offer Certificates or Certifications in ATS®, General Skills or Teacher Training for ATS®. The only entity that can officially certify in ATS®, General Skills or Teacher Training for ATS® is Carolena Nericcio with FatChanceBellyDance or Carolena Nericcio and Megha Gavin with Tribal Pura. Any attempt to offer certification will be understood as nullification of Sister Studio status. If you have a question about the title or nature of your intended course please contact You must use this wording on any certificates: This Certificate of Attendance is issued to XXX for the following course XXX.

Finally, we are assuming that your desire to join us indicates that you want us to be your mentors. We are happy to offer advice and any insight to help your business grow. But with this generosity on our side comes a display of respect on your side. Please speak to us politely. We do not respond to demands so please re-read your e-mails before you send them. Please don’t haggle or bargain us down regarding workshops or merchandise. We are giving you the best deal that we can.

Upon submitting your information, you will be sent confirmation that we have received your application. Once your application is approved, you will receive a welcome letter letting you know that your listing is live.

What happens after you become a Sister Studio?  In addition teaching, many Sister Studios continue to study ATS®. The Sister Studio Continuing Education (SSCE) program allows Sister Studios to re-certify annually as SSCE-certified Sister Studios.
This is an optional program for Sister Studios who are committed to maintaining their skills and knowledge, and who would like to receive annual acknowledgment of their on-going learning efforts. Re-certified Sister Studios will be able to list this status on the FCBD® website and in their own marketing materials. Participation in the SSCE program is not required to maintain Sister Studio status.
Once becoming a Sister Studio, participants may register for the SSCE program at any time to demonstrate their commitment to continued study.  To register, please visit the link below:
Sister Studio Continuing Education Registration Page
The following are required to earn SSCE re-certification:
Annual fee of $75 due at the time of registration;
Nine (9) hours of instruction with an approved SSCE instructor; and
One (1) hour of one-on-one instruction with Carolena or Megha (includes online private lessons).
Upon completion of these requirements, you must submit copies of your SSCE certificates to receive re-certification.  We recommend enrolling in the program and tracking all of your SSCE certificates for the full twelve month period before submitting your certificates to have your listing updated.  Re-enrolling in the same month each year is encouraged.

Visit the SSCE page for more information about the SSCE program, or contact Megha Gavin, Tribal Pura Partner. LIST OF LINKS & URLS
